A Song For Easter Day
(Luke 24: 1-35)
Early one morning
with their spices laden,
four women made their way
to their Lord’s garden tomb.
They came in sadness
fearful, broken-hearted,
for he whom they had loved was crucified.
“Why seek the living
here ‘midst the dead?
the Lord is risen",
the watchers said.
Not dead but risen!
He lives for ever,
He will be with us,
of this we’re sure!
And that same ev’ning
as two friends were walking,
tearfully talking,
on the Emmaus road,
One came beside them,
who then broke bread with them,
at once they knew he was their risen Lord.
“Why seek the living…
Our Lord is with us
this day and every day,
as in our daily life
we seek to walk his way.
He comes to comfort,
challenge, and inspire,
calls us to service that is
his desire.

Easter is a time of rising,
Breaking forth, and being renewed,
Easter comes, the world surprising,
Showing us what God can do.
Easter is a time of rising,
Breathes new life to mind and soul,
Easter is the Lord’s uprising,
Christ is Risen, Christ extol.
Easter is a time of rising,
Let its wonder touch each heart,
Sense God’s power, ‘tis energising,
Empowers us to play our part.
Easter is a time of rising,
Gift of hope for one, for all,
Risen Christ, now present with us,
Raise all those who heed your call.

Two Crosses
The cross that once on Calvary’s hill
an anguished broken body bore,
Sheds light, stands bright in our night sky,
on this Pacific southern shore.
Amidst this human life of ours
the Calvary Cross, a potent sign
of God, the persecuted one
whose love is ever life’s design.
Amidst the constellations vast
the Southern Cross, a glorious sign
of Christ, the resurrected Lord,
transcending all of space and time.
Two crosses then: one dark with pain
revealing God on Calvary’s hill.
The other, sign of light and hope
its word: Yes, God is with us still.
Christ is not locked in time gone by,
nor out of reach in realms of space.
These crosses tell us: Christ is here,
believe, and know God face to face.
