Hymn Texts
The Word
When the word in all its glory,
is explained in many hues,
there remains another story,
which is: what shall we now do?
When a text, lit up with passion,
touches issues of our day,
calls our living into question,
will we from it walk away?
That’s the question that confronts us
as we leave this place of prayer:
will we live the gospel message
showing Christ-like grace and care?
Help us then, the service ended,
not to set your word aside,
but responding to its challenge,
walk with Christ our daily guide.
So may we with faith and courage
live the gospel hour by hour,
bearing witness to its content,
spreading Christ’s life giving power.

Speaking of God Today?
(1 Peter 3: 15)How can we speak of God today
in times of doubt, uncertain faith?
We want to love, to hope, to pray,
but then a crisis clouds life’s way.
Today, O Lord, we seek a sign
that love is still your grand design.
Some seek to find a cause to blame
for all the ills found in this world.
A hardened heart, a heartless “god”
the source of earthquake, wave, and flood?
Lord, when such thoughts assail our minds
a greater vision may we find.
Some see on earth God’s judgement wrought
on those who turn to errors ways,
Let warfare, floods and violent quake
be justice for their wilful days.
Lord, when such thoughts assail our minds
a greater vision may we find.
That greater vision is of love,
the love of one who shares our pain,
stands with us in each crisis hour,
our faith and hope Christ will sustain.
O Lord, of healing, hope and cross,
of love, of faith, you are the source.

Christ Our Guide
O Christ, midst all the turmoil
and problems of our day,
we seek a guide, a signpost,
to point us on our way.
We're faced with many choices,
we're pulled to left and right,
come Christ and be our signpost,
come guide us to your light.
and problems of our day,
we seek a guide, a signpost,
to point us on our way.
We're faced with many choices,
we're pulled to left and right,
come Christ and be our signpost,
come guide us to your light.
The Church it seeks direction
it needs clear guidance too,
lest in the maze of choices
it knows not what to do.
Come Christ and give that guidance,
come lead your Church today,
for we your Church would travel,
love's costly, faithful way.
it needs clear guidance too,
lest in the maze of choices
it knows not what to do.
Come Christ and give that guidance,
come lead your Church today,
for we your Church would travel,
love's costly, faithful way.
The Church it has a mission
if it to Christ be true.
To speak a word for Jesus,
to bring forth hope anew.
That mission is to love God,
serve Christ with all our hearts.
to challenge every issue
with truth that he imparts.
if it to Christ be true.
To speak a word for Jesus,
to bring forth hope anew.
That mission is to love God,
serve Christ with all our hearts.
to challenge every issue
with truth that he imparts.
Christ is the guide, the signpost,
for Church, for Christians too,
if we his road would travel,
if we his work would do.
Now grant that as we follow
the Lord of all our days,
we will his truth embody,
we will Christ's love display.
for Church, for Christians too,
if we his road would travel,
if we his work would do.
Now grant that as we follow
the Lord of all our days,
we will his truth embody,
we will Christ's love display.
